“We got to be doing more than talking a good game…”

And doing more is what this producer/emcee does. Since the emergence of Hip Hop, MaxPtah has made it his mission to be an active participant in how the game is not only played, but how it is changing. Without much training, MaxPtah has become a modern day Renaissance man with learning the fundamentals of producing, mixing, songwriting, beatmaking, and now video cinematography. With paying homage to artists from Stax Records to early Def Jam to Delicious Vinyl, MaxPtah fuses soul, funk, and hip hop to create a unique sound all his own. Coming from a humble background in Memphis, TN, Ptah began not only showing an interest in hip hop, but also began fully immersing within the culture. Even during his prepubescent, Ptah had a unique ear for music emulating such heavy hitters as Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Beastie Boys, Run D.M.C., A Tribe Called Quest, and KRS-One, whom Ptah has had the pleasure of opening for. With a Boss DR-5 drum machine in his hand and ideas flowing through his mind, MaxPtah began creating beats at the age of 15.  He, along with his older brother and some guys from the local neighborhood form a group, Pirana U., which was akin of a southern Wu-Tang Clan. Even though Ptah enjoyed rhyming, his passion was mostly centered behind the scenes. He began taking an interest in recording engineering while a student at the University of Memphis and even landed a job as an engineer/music producer for a local independent record label, New Jaxx Records during his undergraduate career. The group he had formed with his brother & friends eventually dissolved, but Ptah had finally found his path. With new knowledge & determination in hand, Ptah began etching his name with the underground hip hop scene and has never looked back. With now a few projects under his belt and notable recognition overseas, MaxPtah is redefining what it means to be an independent artist.
